JERSEY CITY'S HIDDEN GEM: THE SOCIABLE SOUTHSIDE
Jersey City's Southside neighborhoods are gaining recognition for their expansive parks, burgeoning local business scene, and a tight-knit community spirit that has been part of their DNA for decades.
Dixon Leasing has been involved in Jersey City's southernmost neighborhoods for 7 years, and we've watched the area flourish of late. When community leader Chris Perez invited us to take a tour of the community, we jumped at the chance to learn more about the area's past and meet a few of our neighbors who are influential in its flourishing atmosphere.
AT HOME WITH THE BARNES FAMILY
A newly renovated Dixon Leasing townhouse provides sanctuary for longtime Bedford-Stuyvesant residents rebuilding the family home they lost to fire.
In most of our Dixon Leasing tenant stories, we introduce you to residents whose homes were selected as an exciting next step in their New York living experience. This story is different. In February of this year, fire ravaged the Barnes family's MacDonough Street home of 37 years.
Renovating 354 Ogden Ave: A Jersey City Diamond on a Bluff
On a block of Ogden Avenue, just north of Riverview Park, sat a home left derelict and untouched for a decade. Built in the early 1920s, renovations on the home had been attempted in fits and starts in the last decade but were abandoned completely in the wake of 2008’s financial crisis. Over time, with many windows smashed and some missing entirely, weather damage began and mold took hold. This was the condition in which Dixon Leasing acquired the home at a foreclosure auction — a Dixon first — in 2016.
